Preparing Your Player

1. Equipment: The Foundation of Success

One of the most crucial aspects of hockey training is having properly fitting skates. Think of skates as the foundation of your child's performance on the ice—they should fit like a glove. Ill-fitting skates can hinder progress and even cause discomfort or injury, so it's vital to get them right from the start.

We strongly recommend having your child's skates professionally fitted. For the best results, visit a reputable store like Source for Sports, particularly Brian's on Tecumseh Road.  The professionals there offer thorough fittings that may include heat molding, superfeet insoles, or even recommending a new pair that better suits your child’s needs. This process is often more affordable than you'd think, with heating services around $10 and superfeet insoles averaging $40. These adjustments can make a significant difference in your child's comfort and performance on the ice.

Remember, properly fitting skates give players a considerable edge, setting them up for success in their training and games.

2. Coachability: The Key to Continuous Improvement

To maximize the benefits of our hockey training sessions, it's essential that your child comes with a "coachable" mindset—ready to learn, listen, and apply feedback. Our coaches are dedicated to observing and correcting each player's technique quickly and efficiently, ensuring every moment on the ice is a valuable learning opportunity.

Skills like edgework and power skating are challenging and may take multiple attempts to master. Encourage your child to stay focused, trust the coaches' guidance, and most importantly, keep trying their best. Perseverance is crucial in hockey, and a positive attitude can make all the difference in their development.

Together, we can help your child reach their full potential on the ice!
